What Is On Going SEO Optimization and Why Do I Need It?

Going SEO Optimization
December 18, 2023

SEO is such a big topic for business owners with websites, but there is still a lot of mysticism around it. We want to share with you exactly what can be done each month for the SEO on your website.

What Is Ongoing SEO Optimization?

By ongoing, we mean monthly. While you can work on your website daily, working on it every few weeks can give you good results. Ultimately, it’s not how much you work on it at a time, but that you do it consistently over time. Here are some things we do monthly as part of our ongoing optimizations.

Write New Content For Your Site

One of the most important parts of ongoing SEO is to write new content for your site. You can either do this by writing more pages of content or adding to existing content pages. It can also mean writing new blogs for your website.

However, writing local page content is the most effective strategy if you want to target your local audience. We do not see many conversions come from blogs on a website. Usually, one or two blogs will show up and bring a few leads. However, most leads come from pages on your site specifically written for the services in the cities you offer them.

Add Related Keywords to Existing Pages

This one is a bit trickier to do because it involves tools to help you pick the best keywords for your content. It certainly requires more judgment, experience, and education to do. We start by picking the main keyword for a page. By this, we mean the primary term we want the page to appear for. Of course, Google will likely show it for many combinations of that keyword, but we want to start with the most likely term it can rank for.

Once we determine the primary keyword for a page, we research the related terms Google expects to see in the content. Think of this as supporting words for the main term. For example, Google may expect to see information about requesting a quote on a contractor’s page. Or they may expect that a page about landscaping mentions residential, gardening, or clean-up.

We use a tool called SurferSEO to help us identify the related terms the page should have in it. You can also see what terms the page appears for in the Google Search Console and make sure they are in the content.

Create Backlinks To The Site

There are many ways to get a link back to your site. The primary way we focus on is called citations. This is a business listing we create for our clients on different websites. The goal of citations is to help the business NAP consistency (Name, Address, Phone number) and generate a link to the site’s home page.

We’ve experimented with many different types of backlinks, but creating monthly citations for our clients is the most effective strategy.

Website Technical Audits

A technical audit shows us whether or not links on a site is broken, if the page speeds are slow, and more. We use audit tools to help us identify what aspects of the website need to be updated for better results. It’s important that you have this done from time to time by a developer who can fix the website issues. Usually, this is a bit more advanced than the general person can do.
